We sent in four volunteers – each from three different weight groups – to sleep on the DreamCloud Hybrid in different sleeping positions on a two-week venture. Two of them represent the lightweight (130 lbs below) and heavyweight (230 lbs above) sleepers, respectively, while the rest of the team represents the average group (130-230 lbs), although one weighs 155 lbs and the other is close to 225 lbs.
Based on the data we collected over the past 14 days, it seems that most could agree that this mattress has the potential to accommodate a sizable range of positions and body weights but not exactly all of them. If we could rank the DreamCloud Hybrid, we’d give it a solid 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale – medium firm, for sure. It is soft enough to feel comfortable and supportive enough to mold to the body in different positions. It’s also worth noting that the mattress was comfortable for two of the three volunteers immediately upon contact. The other took them several days to adjust.
What does it feel like to sleep in different positions?
Flat Back Sleeping
We’ve found the DreamCloud Hybrid to be a great bed for back sleepers of all weight types. According to what we have gathered from volunteers, there was no issue with the firmness of the DreamCloud Hybrid. Its construction is flexible enough to support the spine and provide adequate support. Lightweight sleepers may enjoy this one – not only should they feel supported enough, but its top layers should also give them the feeling of being able to lie on top as comfortably as possible.
Average-weighted individuals may like the DreamCloud Hybrid best as it should give them the perfect balance of relief and hold. Their hips, in particular, should sink into the mattress very nicely while the coils underneath support them. Heavyweight sleepers should also feel the same to some extent, but those who weigh around 300lbs or more may not find it suitable since they may sink in too much to the point where pressure is produced. Flat Stomach Sleeping
The DreamCloud mattress can provide exceptional contouring and spine alignment for most back sleepers. However, it is also suitable for side sleepers. There are some notable exceptions. Our average-weighted volunteers had mixed reactions to the mattress. The bed was able to support their bodies and align them well, with our 155-lb volunteer. Their 225-lb counterpart observed its top layers to be a bit soft under his hips but was able to experience a decent amount of support and comfort.
The DreamCloud Hybrid may be too soft for heavy people, especially those over 300 lbs. The representative of that group said her hips were sinking into her mattress when she lay on her stomach. It was so uncomfortable she couldn’t sleep in this position. While it seems that stomach sleepers who weigh more than average may find issues with this mattress, lightweight individuals may reap the benefits of relief better than other denominations. Side sleeping
Side sleeping on the DreamCloud Hybrid is more common for those who are average in weight than the others. For folks who weigh between 130-190 lbs, they may receive an ample amount of contouring support, and the pressure along the hips and shoulders won’t be as much so they should be good. According to our 155-lb volunteer, the experience was worthwhile as they were able to rest well regardless if they switch to either side or stick to one. For those who weigh 190 lbs onwards, it’s a different story.
Our heavyweight and 225-lb reps both felt that the mattress was uncomfortable to sleep on their sides. Both have experienced frequent sinking in their hips and shoulders, creating pressure points that may lead to minor concurrent pains. While heavier people may find the DreamCloud Hybrid soft, those less than 130 pounds may find it more firm to allow them to sleep well. Our lightweight volunteer can attest to this: when she tried to rest strictly on one side for a prolonged period, she felt as if the top layers were too firm at times, but when it came to sleeping with her sides interchanged, it turned out to be decently comfortable. Minor adjustments can be expected at this rate.
Its Pain Relief Capabilities
While our volunteers had a lot of fun testing the DreamCloud Hybrid’s firmness, it was also possible to assess how effective it is in pain relief. We set up a pressure map over the mattress and asked our volunteers to lie on their stomachs, backs, and sides to determine if there was any pressure difference.
We believe that the DreamCloud Hybrid can provide excellent pressure relief for most sleepers. Most people, except for those who are over 300 lbs, will find comfort and relaxation right away. The problem is worse for those who are heavier. Lighter sleepers, for instance, may not enjoy the feel of the mattress in this position for long periods, while heavy-weighted ones may not like it equally as they tend to sink into it more to the point where they feel pain in their shoulders and hips. Temperature Control
The DreamCloud Hybrid promises to be equipped with excellent cooling abilities, and we couldn’t agree more when we checked the temperature of one of our volunteers through a thermal camera scanner. When we had two of our volunteers test it out for motion transfer, we first noticed that one of them wasn’t able to feel another’s changing movements as much until they got more intense. The DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress is neatly packed and sealed in a box. The size of the mattress will determine how heavy it is. The twin is the lightest and Cal King and King are the most heavy. We noticed that many of our team members found it too heavy to transport alone when we opened the Queen-sized version for our tests. So, we added an additional person to ease the burden.
Apart from the mattress, other contents inside the box include a handy booklet for instructions and a free pocket knife that you may use to open it up from the plastic packaging – that is, especially if you don’t have one of your own. After you have rolled it out of the box onto your bed frame, it will be fully compressed. You should wait between 24-48 hours. Since you’re going to encounter a fresh new mattress in front of you, expect it to emit a slightly off-putting odor.
