The DreamCloud: A closer look Dreamcloud Does It Smell Like Chemicals
The DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress is a standout among luxury hybrid beds. While it’s built from the same quality of materials as anyone else, it’s priced comparatively less. Although it is listed as being in the medium firm range, its comfort level is slightly more firm than average. Although it’s within the comfort range that most people would like to sleep on, it can be problematic for some.
The DreamCloud Hybrid has a profile of 14 inches. This hybrid design allows for more comfort and support. And, considering its overall construction which we’ll tackle later on, it allows folks with limited budgets to switch to a newer, better model from the old, worn-out one.
The DreamCloud Hybrid is the flagship product of DreamCloud, a US-based sleep specialist brand that provides its customers with a luxury-grade yet valuable bedroom experience. The firm sells DreamCloud Premier and DreamCloud Premium Rest premium mattresses.
While we will be focusing on the DreamCloud entry-level model, it is worth noting that both models are made from more expensive materials, which increases their price and comfort. We are not going to discourage you from purchasing the Original model. However, we will show later in this review that it can provide the same luxurious feel and cost-effectiveness as the other mattresses.
What does the general public think about DreamCloud?
As of this writing, the DreamCloud mattress and its sister models have received over 10,000 reviews. Most of these are overwhelmingly positive and can range from how amazing it felt to be able to get a proper night’s rest to how it’s extremely worth the value pricing.
While it may manage to be exceptional enough to win people’s hearts, we shouldn’t fully ignore its fair share of criticisms it has received. Some sleepers have expressed dissatisfaction with the DreamCloud Hybrid, claiming it was too soft and too firm. Some even shared their experience of suffering from back/neck/hip pain from sleeping on it alone.
The product can cause a variety of reactions, which may be mixed depending on how long you use it. The main factors that influence how a person feels about the product are their weight, age, climate, and preference for sleeping position. We cannot guarantee that the DreamCloud Hybrid will suit every sleep type. We are certain that the DreamCloud Hybrid may be a good choice for those who want to sleep comfortably.
Who should use the DreamCloud?
- Strict back sleepers – This mattress is exceptional in its ability to provide ample comfort, spinal alignment, and much-needed pressure relief, especially for those who may have varying signs of back pain
- People who like to sleep on a firmer, medium-firm mattress
- Hot sleepers – The DreamCloud Hybrid’s strategically designed with gel infusion and air pockets, a powerful combination guaranteed to keep the individual cool throughout the night
- People who want to upgrade to a luxurious mattress at a reasonable price
- Active couples or partners – Those with their partners may enjoy this model’s impressive ease of movement, and this can be used to their advantage should they decide to do anything on the bed
- Senior citizens – A majority of this age group may suffer varying degrees of chronic pain, especially back pain, and the DreamCloud Hybrid may be their best bet in serving their needs

Who Might Not Like This Mattress?
- Side sleepers who are strict – Lightweight sleepers might find the bed’s surface more comfortable to lie on. Heavy sleepers, however, may sink more easily, causing pressure points to form.
- Heavyweight sleepers – Although this mattress might be able to support most body types, it may not have enough weight to support the heavier individuals.
- Folks who prefer a mattress with memory foam – The DreamCloud mattress may have a memory foam layer, but it may not provide what memory foam fans are exactly looking for: a soft, sinking feeling they get when they lie in bed
Testing the DreamCloud’s Firmness and Feel
Firmness is one of the very first things you may need to check if you’re looking for a new mattress. It can make it easy to decide whether it is too firm or soft, or whether you are tempted to buy it. The DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress’s comfort level may be advertised to be at 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, but how accurate is its claim? We tested the mattress’ overall firmness and felt to find out if DreamCloud is a true brand with its flagship mattress. Dreamcloud Does It Smell Like Chemicals
We sent in four volunteers – each from three different weight groups – to sleep on the DreamCloud Hybrid in different sleeping positions on a two-week venture. Two of them represent the lightweight (130 lbs below) and heavyweight (230 lbs above) sleepers, respectively, while the rest of the team represents the average group (130-230 lbs), although one weighs 155 lbs and the other is close to 225 lbs.
The data collected over the last 14 days suggests that the majority of people could agree that the mattress can accommodate a wide range of body weights and positions. However, not all. We would give the DreamCloud Hybrid a solid 7/10 on the firmness scale, which is medium firm. It’s plush enough to be comfortable, yet supportive enough to contour the body even in different positions. It’s also worth noting that the mattress was comfortable for two of the three volunteers immediately upon contact. The other took them several days to adjust.
What does it feel like to sleep in different positions?
Flat Back Sleeping
We’ve found the DreamCloud Hybrid to be a great bed for back sleepers of all weight types. Based on what we know so far from our volunteers, no one seemed to have any issue with its firmness given that its construction is versatile enough to support the back well and keep the spine properly aligned. This one may be a good choice for light-weight sleepers. Not only should it feel supportive enough, but the top layers should allow them to lay on top as comfortable as possible.
Average-weighted individuals may like the DreamCloud Hybrid best as it should give them the perfect balance of relief and hold. The coils beneath the mattress should support their hips and sink into the mattress. It should feel similar to heavy sleepers, although those who are 300lbs or more might not feel it. They may also experience pressure if they sink too deeply. Dreamcloud Does It Smell Like Chemicals
Flat Stomach Sleeping
The DreamCloud mattress can provide exceptional contouring and spine alignment for most back sleepers. However, it is also suitable for side sleepers. There are some notable exceptions. Our average-weighted volunteers had mixed reactions to the mattress. The bed was able to support their bodies and align them well, with our 155-lb volunteer. The top layers of the bed were a little too soft for their 225-pound counterpart, but he was still able to feel a good amount of support.
Heavy folks, particularly those who weigh nearly 300 lbs, may find the DreamCloud Hybrid to be too soft for their liking. Our representative from that group told us her hips were sinking into the mattress often whenever she laid on her stomach, and it reached the point where she found it a bit uncomfortable to sleep in this position. Although stomach sleepers with higher than average weights may have issues with the mattress, lighter people may be able to reap the benefits of this mattress better than others. Considering their build, their hips won’t be able to sink in as much, so they should feel as comfortable on their stomachs as with their backs.

Side Sleeping
Side sleeping on the DreamCloud Hybrid is more common for those who are average in weight than the others. For folks who weigh between 130-190 lbs, they may receive an ample amount of contouring support, and the pressure along the hips and shoulders won’t be as much so they should be good. Our volunteer of 155 lbs found that the experience was worth it as they were able rest well, regardless of whether they switched sides or stayed on one side. It’s different for those who are 190 or more.
Both our heavyweight and 225-lb reps have expressed that the mattress was a bit uncomfortable to sleep on sideways. Both experienced a lot of sinking in their hips, shoulders and hips. This can lead to pressure points that could cause minor concurrent pains. As heavier individuals may find the DreamCloud Hybrid to be soft under their weight, those who are lesser than 130 pounds may find it a little bit firmer sometimes to be able to sleep properly. Our lightweight volunteer can attest to this: when she tried to rest strictly on one side for a prolonged period, she felt as if the top layers were too firm at times, but when it came to sleeping with her sides interchanged, it turned out to be decently comfortable. At this rate, minor adjustments are more likely expected.
Examining its Pain Relief Capabilities
While our volunteers had a lot of fun testing the DreamCloud Hybrid’s firmness, it was also possible to assess how effective it is in pain relief. We set up a pressure map over the mattress and asked our volunteers to lie on their stomachs, backs, and sides to determine if there was any pressure difference.
Based on what we observed, it’s clear at this point that the DreamCloud Hybrid could create excellent pressure relief along the back for most sleeper groups. Except for the folks who weigh more than 300 lbs, most sleepers may be able to find comfort and relaxation on the spot – the bed’s layers, including the memory foam, are enough to support their weight equally and contour their silhouette very well, resulting in low pressure across the board. The mattress creates very few pressure points, which means that back pains are less likely to occur. This is especially important for seniors and people who have back problems.
The DreamCloud Hybrid will produce some pressure points in the stomach area, especially along the hips. Lightweight and average sleepers may be able to rest soundly without the imminent fear of pent-up pressure, but heavyweight ones, especially those whose structure is adjacent to 300lbs, may need to watch out as too much sinking may lead to an increase in pressure points. Dreamcloud Does It Smell Like Chemicals
We found significant pressure points for most body types when it came to side sleep. It doesn’t matter what your weight, side sleeping on the DreamCloud Hybrid will cause discomfort. The problem is worse for those who are heavier. For instance, lighter sleepers may not find the mattress comfortable in this position, while heavier sleepers may feel more pain in their hips and shoulders. The only anomaly here is the group of average-weighted sleepers, but that doesn’t mean they’re completely free from the pressure points the DreamCloud mattress may bring to them.
Breaking Down Its Construction
What exactly is the DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress made of? The DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress measures 14 inches in height. It is filled with notable qualities that keep you cool and relaxed throughout the night. Like some of the top-performing hybrid models of today, it’s equipped with outstanding cooling capabilities, warding off the body’s heat to ensure better sleep.
Built using high-quality CertiPUR-US-certified foam layers of varying firmnesses with a thin tier of memory foam in between, it’s also backed with a set of strong innerspring coils to hold the body together. Let’s look at the DreamCloud mattress’s construction.
Layer 1: Cashmere Blend Cover
Cashmere wool is known for its soft touch and luxurious feel. It’s for this reason that DreamCloud chose to incorporate this into the cover of its signature mattress model. The quilt’s cloud-patterned design, which is splayed across the mattress, invites the user to lay down on the bed. The material is breathable and has excellent temperature-regulating characteristics to help cool the sleeper at night.
Layer 2: Contouring Soft foam
The mattress cover is quilted so you won’t be able to guess what material it is. Under the cashmere-blend mattress cover is a plush, soft, and supportive polyfoam that provides ample support for the body’s weight. This layer, which is 1 1/2 inches in thickness, gives off a pillow-top feeling that most users will likely feel upon touching the bed.
Layer 3: Layer of Memory Foam
Memory foam has been well-known for its ability to adapt to the body and provide relief from pressure points. In the case of the DreamCloud Hybrid, it is placed conveniently underneath the quilted top layer. It measures one inch and is just right to support the sleeper, but it doesn’t give off a sinking sensation. Although this material is known for trapping heat well, DreamCloud has incorporated gel infusion to help cool the body.
Layer 4: Polyfoam Transition Layer
Beneath the memory foam is a two-inch firm polyfoam that serves as a transitional layer between the soft part of the mattress and the base foundation of the coils. It serves two purposes: 1) it conforms the body’s posture and shape to the coils; and 2) it keeps it from sinking further into the mattress, which can be very inconvenient.
Layer 5: Innerspring Coils
Speaking of coils, the DreamCloud Hybrid’s very foundation comes in the form of a full system of individually wrapped innerspring coils. Each spring is 8 1/2 inches tall. This contributes to the mattress’s overall height. The coils can be responsive to the sleeper’s changing movements very well. However, the perimeters of the mattress are strategically strengthened with stronger steel to provide better edge support.
Layer 6: Stability Base Layer
Situated beneath the coil set is an inch-thick layer of high-density standard foam. It acts as a foundation for the mattress and is thick enough to prevent the springs moving, but thin enough to allow airflow. Dreamcloud Does It Smell Like Chemicals
They will bounce back. It won’t feel as if it were there, but you will be able to appreciate the fact that it is there to prevent it from falling apart.

Layer 7: Shift-Resistant Lower Cover
To cap it all off is a tufted cover to store all the layers within the DreamCloud Hybrid safely in place. Although it’s not considered a layer that makes up the bed per se, it’s built for the sole purpose to secure the foundation that holds it. Its rounded borders are adorned with tufted decor to make the mattress appear luxurious, while its four side handles, with two on each side, are sewn in to make transporting it easier and hassle-less.
How Well Did the DreamCloud Perform?
A perfect mattress should be able to adapt to the sleeper’s needs. Apart from accommodating their body type and preferred sleep position, other pressing factors should be taken into consideration – this includes a plethora of activities, habits, and even the climate that they are usually accustomed to. We were able to perform a number of tests during the two-week test period to determine if the DreamCloud Hybrid is a solid staple in the bedroom.
Temperature Control
The DreamCloud Hybrid promises to be equipped with excellent cooling abilities, and we couldn’t agree more when we checked the temperature of one of our volunteers through a thermal camera scanner. This is all thanks to its mix of temperature-regulating materials embedded within the mattress: the gel-infused memory foam layer, the breathable cashmere cover, and the coils that encourage more air to pass through.
This model is ideal for couples or individuals who live in hot climates.
Motion Transfer
The DreamCloud mattress is made from a combination of materials and functions. It may not absorb all motions but it does a good job. We first noticed that one of our volunteers couldn’t feel the other’s movements changing as much when they became more intense. It caused little to no disturbance with small movements.
Similar to most luxury hybrid beds, the DreamCloud Hybrid’s motion isolation capabilities are fairly bearable. This model is not recommended for light sleepers with a restless partner.
Edge Support
The DreamCloud Hybrid is said to provide great edge support with the help of reinforced steel coils around the perimeter/edges, but how accurate is this claim? When we checked it out by letting out volunteers sit and lie along the edges of the bed, we then found out that it was mostly true, though not entirely. A mattress with exceptional edge support may allow sleepers to take advantage of the surface without fear of falling or sinking.
Our volunteers can attest that the DreamCloud bed’s edges are able to support them well. However, our heavyweight rep stated otherwise. Those who weigh more than 230 lbs may not find this bed as supportive.
Noise
Beds with innerspring coils as their foundation are notorious for making significant squeaking noises, especially coming to terms with intense movement. The same sort of applies to a couple of hybrid beds with springs sandwiched in between layers of foam.
The DreamCloud Hybrid is an exception – within our two-week testing period, not a single one of our crew noticed any annoying squeaking coming from within the bed. The way it was constructed or the method of wrapping up each oil may be a contributing factor, but regardless, with this model, noise shouldn’t be a huge worry for many. Dreamcloud Does It Smell Like Chemicals
Mobility made easy
Ideally, mattresses made with a wide variety of materials should be able to strike a balance between contouring and ease of movement – the DreamCloud model achieves this by making its memory foam layer complimentary with other foam layers, not outshine them, therefore allowing it to conform the body’s shape like a light hug. Meanwhile, the coil system beneath the comfort layers should respond to movements quite well, resulting in easier navigation throughout the surface.
Our team discovered that the bed was easy to move around. If you plan to do some motion-intensive activities on the bed, especially, you wouldn’t have any issues with it.
Sex
Speaking of motion-intensive, we see a promising amount of potential in the DreamCloud Hybrid as an ideal bed for sexual activities. People who only engage in sex occasionally may find it beneficial to be able to adjust to their movements quickly. The fact that it makes noticeably less noise than other hybrid beds also makes it likely possible for them to engage discreetly.
The medium-firm mattress may not be suitable for partners who prefer to sleep in one or more positions. Regardless, the DreamCloud mattress fits the bill as one of our best beds for sex. Dreamcloud Does It Smell Like Chemicals
Durability
As far as durability is concerned, the DreamCloud Hybrid, as we said before, is composed of high-quality materials and certified layers of foam. Plus, based on some of the reviews about the product that we could find, its overall quality and capabilities may hold up for not just a mere few weeks but months and even years!
How long this durability could last may change depending on the sleeper’s body type, how often they use it, or if they have one or two more persons who lay on its surface. Reflecting on our two-week testing period, we can all agree that the DreamCloud mattress stayed durable enough to not have its ability to provide comfort compromised. We believe it should remain this way for seven to eight more years. Dreamcloud Does It Smell Like Chemicals
Unboxing and off-gassing the DreamCloud
The DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress is neatly packed and sealed in a box. The size of the mattress will determine how heavy it is. The twin is the lightest and Cal King and King are the most heavy. When we unboxed the Queen-sized version to be used for our tests, we noticed that some of our teammates find it quite heavy to carry it alone, so from that point onwards we needed an extra person to help ease the burden.
Other than the mattress, the box also contains a booklet with instructions and a pocket knife. This is especially useful if you don’t already have one. Once you roll it out from the box onto the bed frame where you’ll place it and it’s free from any form of packaging, you will need to wait between 24-48 hours until it’s fully decompressed. Since you’re going to encounter a fresh new mattress in front of you, expect it to emit a slightly off-putting odor.
Models made of synthetic foam layers tend to emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) collected from manufacturing. Since the DreamCloud Hybrid’s foam layers are all CertiPUR-US-certified, the amount should be much less. It is important to let it sit out so that the smell can dissipate after a few days. We recommend that you open all windows and doors to the room in order to speed up this process.
Available Sizes and Pricing
The DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress is not only a great mattress, but it also has some amazing features. Factoring in the kind of materials used in its inception and the remarkable quality of its framework and foundation, it’s no wonder that this model is sold at a range of competitive yet affordable prices.
You may also save money if you order from DreamCloud’s official site. You’re also rewarded with a free set of bedding, including pillowcases, sheets, and a mattress protector, to help make the set-up process simpler.

DreamCloud vs. other top mattresses
Want to consider some options? We’ll help you with that! Although the DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress is the most popular luxury hybrid model on the market, there are two alternatives that offer the same comfort and have unique features that it does not. Let’s take a look at each of them! Dreamcloud Does It Smell Like Chemicals
DreamCloud vs. Saatva
The Similarities: Much like the DreamCloud Hybrid, the original Saatva Classic mattress is a luxury hybrid bed that’s excellent in providing comfort and relief to the sleeper’s back. It’s also bouncy and responsive to movements, making it easier to navigate across the surface.
The differences: Saatva costs a little more than DreamCloud Hybrid due to its more complex coil system and Euro-coated cotton pillowtop. The former, which has one firmness option, can be adjusted to suit different body types.
DreamCloud vs. Nectar
The Similarities: Both the Nectar Mattress and DreamCloud Hybrid are delivered in a box, so you and your companion will need to set them up on your own. Both are jam-packed with impressive temperature-regulating capabilities, offer year-long sleep trials, and even come from the same parent company, Resident.
The differences: The DreamCloud Hybrid bed is a hybrid, while Nectar is an all-foam mattress with a thick layer of memory foam between. This means it can easily adapt to a wide range of sleeping positions than just the back. It is even recommended for side sleeping.
Our Final Thoughts: How Well is the DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress Holding Up So Far?
It’s clear that the DreamCloud Hybrid is an excellent luxury hybrid mattress. We have taken a closer look at it and are now fully testing it ourselves.
We’re impressed by how well it can accommodate and support the backs of most sleepers as it was able to relieve pressure points in certain areas, though the same can’t exactly be translated in terms of side and stomach sleeping. It’s a great choice for anyone looking for a versatile and well-constructed experience.
The DreamCloud Hybrid’s luxuriously crafted medium-firm surface may be inviting for anyone, but not exactly for everyone. The bed is not strong enough to support 300-pounds or more. It’s evident that the bed is a welcome staple for couples and single sleepers alike.
You also have less to lose if it’s your decision to buy it. DreamCloud offers a variety of discounts and has a responsive customer support team to help you. For this and all the other good reasons regarding the DreamCloud Hybrid, there’s no doubt that we’re giving it a resounding 4.5/5 stars. For what it is, it’s surely worth the try… and the purchase!
